Freedom Lifted offers Civil Rights tours through the U.S. Deep South for prearranged groups from schools, organizations, houses of worship, and groups working together in various sectors. Currently, we do not have tour opportunities for individuals. The following are some questions we are frequently asked regarding our custom group Civil Rights tours.
1. What is the minimum number of people required for a group tour?
A minimum of 15 people is required for a group.
2. When should I start planning the trip for my group?
Planning a tour begins at least six months before desired start date. If you do not already have your group members confirmed, we suggest starting to plan your tour about one year before the desired tour dates.
3. How much will the tour cost?
The tour fee depends on the number of people in your group and the length of your tour. We also consider how many people you have assigned to each hotel room. Normally, a 4-day/3-night tour costs between $900 – $1100/per person for a group of 20 – 25 people. The costs increase with additional days, but also can be lower if you have more people.
4. What is included in the cost?
The tour fee is all-inclusive, except for airfare, unless otherwise requested. Everything is covered once you board the bus in your start city. This includes ground transportation, all meals, lodging in a 3-star hotel, and entrance fees. Participants are responsible for travel to the origin city and from the final destination city.
5. Where do we board the bus?
Most of our Civil Rights tours begin and/or end in Memphis, Birmingham, or Atlanta. However, they may begin, by bus, in other cities around the country. Freedom Lifted does not arrange airfare to the tour origin city or from the final destination city.
6. Where do we go?
Most often our trips consist of locations in Mississippi and Alabama, as well as Memphis and Atlanta. We have also led tours to New Orleans, sites in North Carolina and in the California Bay Area. The locations we visit were originally inspired by On the Road to Freedom: A Guided Tour of the Civil Rights Trail by Charles E. Cobb, Jr.
7. Where do we stay while on tour?
Unless otherwise requested, Hampton Inn hotels.
8. How do I sign up?
Request a tour and we will follow up with you about your plans.
We look forward to traveling with you!
